attitude

attitude is everything.

It is not always easy, but I am learning that it is the most valuable choice I can wake up and make- to have a good attitude with every exciting thing and every crappy situation. bad things happen to good people, good things happen to bad people. sometimes we set ourselves up for our own struggle. either way, we can fix our attitude about it all.

 ***

"This may shock you, but I believe the single most significant decision I can make on a day-to-day basis is my choice of attitude. It is more important than my past, my education, my bankroll, my success, my failures, fame or pain, what other people think or say about me, my circumstances, or my position.

Attitude is that "single string" that keeps me going or hinders my progress. It alone fuels my fire or assaults my hope.

When my attitudes are right, there's no barrier too high, no valley too deep, no dream too extreme, no challenge too great for me.

Yet, we must admit that we spend more of our time concentrating and fretting over the things that cant be changed in life than we do giving attention to the one thing that can,
OUR CHOICE OF ATTITUDE."

While I wholeheartedly believe in choosing to approach every challenge with a great attitude, I don't mean that we should abandon authenticity and live in fantasyland.

“We cannot change our past. We can not change the fact that people act in a certain way. We can not change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. ”

blessed (weekend pt. 2)

 (longish post)

I feel really blessed, really often.

I know everything isn't perfect, I whine, I get unhappy, I get caught up in dumb stuff-
 just like everyone else.

but sometimes I sit and all I can do is feel really blessed.

I had many of those moments this past weekend.
I wrote about some here .

but those moments are so much more magnified when you are happy for someone else.
best feeling ever.

***

So I watch American Idol randomly, not an avid watcher, but I watched Season 11 bc I loved Colton Dixon. Def my musical style & he happens to love Jesus,
always a plus in a musician.

So I was so sad when he wasn't on the show anymore, but I knew he had so much success ahead.

when I heard about his album coming out, A Messenger , I was super excited & ran to get it.

to add to it, I found out a little later that my childhood friend, David was playing lead guitar for him on his tour with Third Day.

what?! how exciting, huh?

I asked David when they were coming to Texas bc I knew I had to be there.

Sunday night was the show, I almost didn't get to go.
I asked like 4 different people to join me and there was always something in the way of them getting to come (yay for being grownups).

I got a text Saturday night from my good friend Jenna, saying she was going to see
Third Day with a friend.

Needless to say I bought the tickets and drove the 4 hours solo to join them!

(I got the creepy eye thing down!)

So the show was AWESOME!
of course.
I don't think the set list was near long enough though! lol

and then I got to see David!!

seriously I grew up with this guy and then he moved off to Nash to pursue his dreams and life took us other places, but I am SO thankful that when/if I do see him, it is still so familiar and he is such an awesome guy.

(I'll save him the embarrassment of showing y'all some real old pictures of us with bangs & braces...lol)

 photo IMG_3793_zps1996fc3c.jpg

and he was so awesome to let us meet the band and Colton!

I was trying not to act like a 14 year old girl at times.
bc I was pretty excited and they were all just so so nice.

*props to Schyler for a nice photobomb

and then we headed out to catch the end of the Third Day show.

and that's when I had that overwhelming blessed feeling.

There we were in a room full of people so happy to be there, listening to awesome music, and with amazing people.

 photo IMG_3788_zps4e68d11f.jpg

It is so great when people turn their passion into their purpose.

I am not proud of David bc he plays for Colton, I am proud of David bc he took his passion and turned it into his purpose and THAT is why he is successful.

It was a moment we had talked about for so many years & there we were, living it!

 photo IMG_3783_zps2dee4dc2.jpg

Seriously such a good time!

I ended up driving back to H-town that very same day and so I grabbed some coffee @ Jenna's and was on the road again!

 photo IMG_3792_zps8403b465.jpg

thanks Jenna for letting me get ready, tag along, and steal your coffee!
It is always awesome to hang out with you!! (and Katie is way cool)

Def a successful night, if you are anywhere the Miracle Tour is headed, check them out.
Josh Wilson, Colton Dixon, & Third Day.

(I know y'all see some Pittsburgh Steeler action there)

weekend pt.1

I had such a great weekend.
I got to hang out and talk to so many people that I don't get to see ever.
I loved it.

****

Friday Night I met Mary & Amanda at The Tasting Room.

 photo IMG_3750_zps3c727f21.jpg

back story is I have known Mary and Amanda since about 4th grade.
We grew up together and have such a unique relationship bc of it.

We have been there through so many sad endings and happy beginnings of life, and they really mean the world to me.  It isn't often that you can be with people and just be 100% yourself- with these girls we are just that.

I am so thankful for their friendship over the years,
we def go long spurts without talking, but when we pick back up, it is like no time has passed at all.

this is sadly the best pic I could get of us... for some reason I thought it was cute that night. ha!

****

Saturday morning I ran a 5k.

(I know what you're thinking, it really isn't blog worthy anymore)

This one was really small and just in the neighborhood. I heard about it Friday at work and just signed up! My mom joined me too, so proud of her!

 photo IMG_3755_zps6ac6e325.jpg

so it ended up just being the most emotional 5k ever though...
after I finished I was waiting and drinking some water and this mom and her handicapped daughter crossed the finish line. she had pushed her the whole time in a  wheelchair.

If you have ever been to a race, you understand there is already an awesome vibe, but this time it was just magnified. to add to it, the little 5yr old was right behind them...
too much sweetness for me.

I just stood there and cried and felt grateful for what I do have.
Thank goodness I had on my sunglasses.
lol

 photo IMG_3759_zps0c6a1899.jpg photo IMG_3762_zps3fd69c05.jpg

and no, I am not signed up for another race.
find one and I will join you though!

Saturday night I watched some college basketball.
why?

#1 I like almost any sport
#2 I randomly made a bracket this year and had Michigan as my national champ and they played in the final four & won Saturday night.

(that story doesn't have a happy ending)

****

Sunday I got up and went to early service.
it hurt to get up so early, but well worth it!

Then I got in the car solo and headed to Waco to meet Jenna and head out
to the Colton Dixon/Third Day Concert.

I had some healthy road trip food and saw so many bluebonnets on my way there.
 photo IMG_3769_zpsd1f02441.jpg

 photo IMG_3774_zps8e358b68.jpg

the concert obviously gets its very own post, more on that tomorrow!

about that college basketball game... yeah if Michigan would have won last night I would be $1,000 richer. insane huh? my first bracket and I was teased like that lol

oh well!

running the streets of crosby

I jogged another 5k.
insane!

I may or may not love them.

I would do one every weekend if they were free
(some are, but not the real fun ones)

 photo IMG_3658_zps24817b64.jpg

I didn't mean to run two in two weeks, but this one was for an awesome cause:

"...Cody Stephens Go Big or Go Home Memorial Foundation, which was established to fund educational and health screening scholarships in honor and loving memory of Cody Stephens. Cody was a high school senior and athlete who passed away last year before graduation of an undetected heart condition. A condition that could have been detected by a simple heart screen. His family is working tirelessly to make these life-saving heart screenings mandatory in school districts across Texas. Help us support their efforts and help us to carry on Cody's legacy: GO BIG OR GO HOME! "

I went to high school with Cody's big brother & big sister.
It is awesome the legacy they are allowing Cody to leave and the lives they are reaching.

 photo IMG_3659_zps2b4ea383.png photo IMG_3667_zps063994fe.jpg

I was most proud of this run because:

1. It was at 8am and I have never done a morning run.
2. I jogged it all alone.
3. That being said, my mom was there and finished it too!
4. It was for a cause that was personal.

 photo IMG_3669_zpsc8809998.jpg

as of now I don't have another run scheduled, I should start looking before summer gets here & it is too hot.

ps. I haven't even run a mile since then...

slacker.

the little things

life isn't easy.

I often get so overwhelmed and forget that there are people going through so much more than I could ever comprehend.

My heart has been so heavy lately.
All the sadness and hurt in the world sometimes just catches up to me.

I had a girl call the boutique the other day to ask about a dress.
It was for her mom's memorial service.

I didn't have one single complaint for the rest of the day.
My heart aches for her and her sweet dad who came in and picked it up for her.

that being said, I HAVE to find the silver lining in Everyday.

I HAVE to find the little things to enjoy, there is more good than bad in the world.

I can't focus on all the wrong.

Some little things that have made me smile lately:

Vanessa got me this cute phone case, awesome reminder!

We decided to do a

We have went to an Astro's game, a Texan's game, and a couple weeks ago we went to a Rocket's game.

We still have hockey, soccer, and maybe some UH games.
